The U.S. Conference of Mayors, at its Annual Meeting in June, 2009, adopted a series of resolutions addressing various aspects of the urban food system, including:
calling for the Obama administration to support local food production and procurement;
urging mayors to develop, grow, and maintain edible gardens in parks, city hall land, and municipal community gardens;
calling on Congress to improve nutritional standards and enhance the administration of school lunch and WIC programs as it reauthorizes the Child Nutrition Act; and
urging Congress to adopt policies to enable cities to scale up their procurement of local foods in school food programs;
